Living. Loving. Logging.

May 3rd, 2018 by

Living. Loving. Logging. That’s our world. As most of you know my husband and his Dad are owner/operators of their own logging co. It’s just the two of them. And our son, almost 10, is their shadow.

There’s nothing quite like the sound and sight of the log truck coming up the lane at the end of the day. Peeking out to see them working on the skidder, welding a trailer. (You have to look close to tell who is who from a distance.) Impromptu lunches and trips to town to pick up a part. Spending Friday afternoons together doing checks and paperwork. Laughing at the guys spending too much time browsing online and dreaming of new equipment. Weekends cutting firewood. Even the endless bits of sawdust that seem to get into everything. It’s who we are. And we were blessed. So blessed.

So what do you do when one of them doesn’t come home from the woods.
How do you continue doing what you’ve always done.
But how do you not.

I don’t know what our world looks like without him.
So from my logging family to yours, please say a little prayer for us that we find our way.

Until we meet again, Pop. <3

Books for her — because Loggers make better lovers ;)

Warm up by the fire with a hot cup of cocoa and a sexy romance featuring some manly lumberjacks this holiday season. Here are some our top picks. The saw bears series by T.S. Joyce in particular has a huge following, with 7 novels “filled with big, burly, growly, flirty lumberjacks”.

Lumberjack Halloween Costumes

October 11th, 2016 by

Yes, lumberjack costumes are very sterotypical… but I can’t help but love them. And they are super easy to DIY… grab a plaid shirt, suspenders and a beard and you’re all set! A few years ago my hubby and I went to a halloween party as “Paul Bunyan” and me as Babe the Blue Ox…

My super crafty Mom over at Nanaslittlenest.com crocheted the hat. A blue dress, blue tights and a cowbell from Tractor Supply I spray-painted completed the costume.  It would make a fun siblings costume too!

Another idea (admittedly a bit more difficult) is to go as the equipment instead of the logger! My son was 3 when he decided he just had to be an excavator. My husband was recovering from his fall at the time so had both his arms in casts and it was up to me to create this thing (with his oversight). We just pulled it out of the attic a few weeks ago and were reminiscing… I am still super proud of this thing. lol!

Farming simulator and more logging related games

October 10th, 2016 by

Recently, my son is really into Farming Sim and we all enjoy watching him play! The forestry module is really cool — he can cut down the trees by hand with a chainsaw, and then can load them up and sell the logs or turn them into woodchips. Click clack lumberjack is another family favorite — sort of similar to Jenga. With Christmas right around the corner do you have any fun recommendations your logging family loves?

Prayer of a Logger’s Wife

July 26th, 2016 by

In late 2009, early 2010 I wrote a poem called “Prayer of a Logger’s Wife”. The poem was written from my heart and as such, I know there are many logger’s wives out there that can relate to every word. (I have it available on merchandise through my t-shirt shop here by the way).

Unfortunately, there have been a lot of people that feel they can take my poem, put it on their own merchandise and profit freely. This is theft. No one other than TheLoggersWife.com has permission to resell any merchandise with my poem and I will do all I can to make sure that any copyright violators are shut down. If you would like to go the honest route and contact me about using the poem please do so. You can reach me by email at loggerswife@theloggerswife.com.
